This beer was the winner of our November 2022 Strong Beers Competition. Congrats to brewer Dan Johnson! This imperial stout was sweet and boozy but not overwhelming, incredibly impressive given its 3 year age.
Lion of God-Imperial Stout Batch Size: 5.5 Gal Boil time: 90 min Efficiency: 65% Original Gravity: 1.110 - 1.120 Final Gravity: 1.035 - 1.045 ABV: 10.4 SRM: 50+ MASH: 7 lbs Maris Otter(crisp) 29.5% 7 lbs Pilsner(Weyerman) 29.5% 1 lbs 4.0 oz Black Malt(Briess) 5.3% 1 lbs 4.0 oz Roasted Barley 5.3% 8.0 oz Chocolate Malt 2.1% 8.0 oz Flaked Wheat 2.1% 4.0 oz Caramunich Malt 1.1% BOIL: 3 lbs Amber LME 90min/first wort 3 lbs Darl LME 90min/first wort 4.0 oz Centennial 45min 1.0 oz Centennial 30min 1.0 oz Centennial 0min YEAST: 2 packs Propagate Labs American Ale Blend(unknown origin). Any american ale yeast that can tolerate big, high alcohol beers NOTES: Mash at 152f for 60min, drain and sparge. Add LME while heating to boil. Aerate wort and pitch 2 healthy packs of yeast(starter is preferred). Ferment at 68f for 14 days. Best to bottle condition this beer for at least six months before tasting. You will want this little lion to grow into a mature, strong and healthy cat. Ideal age to really enjoy this expedition is at least 2 years so be patient
